Bulgarians shall travel visa-free to US, if the US is willing to maintain the current political and economic relations with the EU

Since US is not lifting the visas for Bulgaria, Romania, Cyprus, Poland and Croatia, European Parliament voted to end visa-free travel for Americans.

On the 2nd of March the EU Parliament voted a Resolution to urge the EU Commission to adobe legal measures to force visa reciprocity between the EU and USA within two mounts.
According to the visa reciprocity mechanism, if a third country does not lift its visa requirements within 24 mounts of being notified of non-reciprocity, the EU must adopt a delegate act, suspending the visa waiver for its nationals for 12 mounts. Following a notification of non-reciprocity on the 12 of April 2014, Canada, Australia, Brunei and Japan lifted their visa requirements for all EU citizens. Only US remain non-action on the issue, which brought to the present decision of the EU Parliament.

What is coming next?

In this complex situation the most probable outcome shall be visa waiver for all EU citizens. Bulgarians, along with the other EU member states, shall favor visa-free travel to US in imminent future.
